Haredi, National-Religious, Communist MKs win award

MKs Zevulun Orlev (Habayit Hayehudi), Uri Maklev (United Torah Judaism) and Dov Henin (Hadash) won the Israeli Democracy Institute’s (IDI) Parliamentary Award.

On Saturday, Henin and Maklev were declared exceptional MKs, while Orlev was declared as best committee chairman, for his leadership of the Knesset Committee on the Rights of the Child. All three will receive their awards at an IDI ceremony February 2.

The NGO researched all 120 MKs’ parliamentary activity, and rated “quality” activity, specifically in supervising the government, as opposed to passing private legislation, which is less likely to become law than government bills. The IDI also rated MKs’ connections with voters and budgetary responsibility, as well as speeches and parliamentary questions.
