The Center of Organizations of Holocaust Survivors in Israel (COHSI) on Wednesday called on Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Interior Minister Eli Yishai not to allow the deportation of 1,200 children of migrants. "These are children who only know our country, speak our language, dream in Hebrew and aspire to be a part of building Israel," said acting COHSI chairman Ze'ev Factor in a statement. "We must not allow a child who grew up here to be expelled from the country he was born in, just because of his roots. It's a lesson etched on our flesh." It came a day after a ministerial committee charged with finding a permanent solution for the 1,200 children scheduled for deportation released statements indicating that the solution would be to expel the children in eight months, once the school year is over. Though the Prime Minister's Office has said that the decision is not final, opponents of the plan wasted no time coming out against it, and about a hundred people demonstrated against the decision in Tel Aviv on Tuesday evening.
