Kurdish protesters clash with police

ISTANBUL — Hundreds of Kurds clashed with police in Turkey's southeast during a protest over the trial of more than 150 Kurds, including a dozen elected mayors, on charges of having ties to Kurdish rebels.
Dogan news agency video shows police firing smoke grenades during Tuesday's clash in the town of Cizre, near the Iraqi border. The protesters have dispersed without any reported casualties.
The clashes follow tensions between a pro-Kurdish political party and the government over demands of autonomy in the Kurdish-dominated southeast and the recognition of the Kurdish language in official settings. Turkey strongly rejects both demands, fearing they could divide the country along ethnic lines.
