Ministry: 1 in 10 Israelis got flu vaccination

About 10 percent of the population -- or 766,000 -- have been vaccinated against influenza since the end of the High Holidays, the Health Ministry said on Tuesday.
Among the higher-risk population over 65, 41% have received flu shots at their health funds. Even though those at higher risk include babies, the elderly, pregnant women and people with weak immune system and chronic diseases, the ministry recommends that everyone over the age of six months get the free vaccine in time because it reduces the risk of normally healthy people will infect those at high risk.
Contrary to common myths, the vaccine does not give people the flu. It takes a few weeks for protective antibodies to develop in the body, so the earlier the better now that the weather is due to turn colder and wet.
