Petition against Danino becoming Police chief dismissed

The High Court of Justice on Thursday rejected a petition calling to disallow the appointment of Cmdr. Yochanan Danino to be the next chief of the Israel Police.

The judges ruled that despite the fact that the state comptroller has not finished his probe into two complaints against Danino connected with his dealings with undercover agents, at this stage he was not guilty of any misconduct. Danino allegedly whitewashed police incompetence that led to the murders of two criminals turned police informers in 2006.

Danino was scheduled to replace Insp.-Gen. David Cohen in May.
