Police: Israeli man arrested for money changing scheme at Ben-Gurion Airport

Police arrested a 63-year-old man at Ben-Gurion Airport on Monday on suspicion of operating a money changing scheme and defrauding thousands of shekels from unknowing customers.
The man is suspected of posing as a money changer at the airport and exchanging expired Romanian and Bulgarian bills. The suspect, a resident of Tel Aviv, allegedly offered the expired bills at a reduced price to attract customers.
Police said the man attempted to flee police detectives and resisted arrest. He will be brought to a remand hearing at the Rishon Lezion Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
“The Israel Police calls on the public to exchange money in authorized businesses, and not to be tempted by discounted offers with bills of unknown origin,” the police said in a statement on Monday.
