Fifty percent of the American public says it sympathizes more with Israel in its conflict with the Palestinians, according to a new survey conducted by the Pew Research Center, whereas only 10% says it sympathizes more with the Palestinians.
With respect to particular denominations, conservative Republicans maintained the strongest support for Israel with exactly three quarters saying it sympathizes with Israel compared to just 2% that sympathizes with the Palestinians. By contrast, 33% of liberal Democrats said they sympathize more with Israel as opposed to 22% with the Palestinians. Independents were found to sympathize more with Israel by a 47% to 13% margin.
In the survey, conducted Dec. 5-9 among 1509 Americans, 23% of Americans offered no opinion, while 13% said it sympathizes with neither side and 4% said both.
