Pollard tells wife he was returned to jail after surgery

Imprisoned Israeli agent Jonathan Pollard on Thursday told his wife Esther by phone that he was not allowed to stay at the hospital for his recovery following a “very urgent” surgical procedure he undertook Tuesday after suffering from pain caused by problems with his kidneys, gall bladder and high blood pressure.

Pollard told his wife that he was already sent back to his Butner, North Carolina prison where he was being kept under the auspices of the prison's medical services.

Esther Pollard said her husband sounded weak over the phone.

Pollard's doctor told him the surgery was successful, but that an additional operation may be necessary.
