Report: Egypt to mediate deal to free Schalit

Egypt will renew its efforts to mediate a deal to free kidnapped Israeli soldier Gilad Schalit from his Gaza captivity, Channel 10 cited from a report on Friday in Kuwaiti newspaper al-Qabas.
The mediation was agreed upon during a meeting between the Defense Ministry's Intelligence Chief, Gen. Amos Gilad, and the head of Egyptian intelligence, Omar Suleiman, in Cairo last week, according to Egyptian sources quoted in the report.
The main disagreement that occurred between the two sides was Israel's alleged desire to deport some of the Palestinian prisoners expected to be exchanged for Schalit to Egypt, Syria or Jordan and have them remain there in exile for a period of two years. Egypt was said to have wanted all Palestinian prisoners in the exchange agreement released to their homes or wherever they were located before their arrests.
