Unconditional US backing has led Israel to consider existing in the Middle East "without the acceptance of the people in the area," Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal said in an interview with the International Herald Tribune published Wednesday. Such support, he said, "has led to many years of conflict between Israel and the Palestinians." During the interview, al-Faisal - a prince in the Saudi kingdom's royal family, who has served as foreign minister for over three decades - stated that Lebanon would not be a truly sovereign state as long as Hizbullah possessed "more arms than the military forces of the country." He also made reference to the Iranian nuclear program, saying that Teheran's conduct was "suspicious." Iran, he said, must not come to possess nuclear arms.
