The impending labor dispute between the Treasury and the union of lab workers has been frozen as a result of agreement reached to improve working conditions of shift-work microbiologists, it was announced on Wednesday. Some 300 lab employees work nights; according to the new agreement, they will get a 12.5 percent increase in their pay retroactive to September 1, plus an additional NIS 400 a year for study funds.
The Finance Ministry also agreed to establish a new post in every government hospital; this person will be trained to be in charge of the microbiology lab in each institution. For this work, the employee will receive an extra 5%.
As a result, the employees decided to freeze their work dispute, which was due to begin next week. Union chief Asher Goldshleger said that the work dispute as frozen and not cancelled yet, as he was waiting for the formal signing of the complete agreement. Last September 19, all the government hospital labs suffered from sanctions and protest meetings by staffers in an effort to improve their conditions.
