Syrian tanks enter resort town near Lebanon

AMMAN - Syrian tanks stormed the town ofZabadani near the border with Lebanon on Monday after Ramadanevening prayers, residents said, the latest military thrust toprevent pro-democracy demonstrations from spreading during theMuslim fasting month.

More than 20 tanks and armored personnel carriers enteredthe resort town in the foothills of the Anti-Lebanon mountainrange after residents held a street demonstration in support ofthe central city of Hama, witnesses said.

At least three protesters in Zabadani were injured bymachine-gun fire from the tanks, two witnesses said.
