Washington Post: Boehner offers to postpone debt ceiling

In a concession to US President Barack Obama in negotiations to avert the "fiscal cliff," House Speaker John Boehner offered to postpone a showdown on the debt ceiling for a year, the Washington Post reported Monday.
The Post cited sources in both parties "familiar with the talks" as saying that Boehner offered to delay a debt ceiling fight, which would have surfaced in coming months as the US reached its legal debt limit, on Friday.
Obama had requested that Congress forgo their control over the debt ceiling altogether. A brutal 2011 political fight over the limit resulted in a downgrade of America's credit rating.
