Yavne wins Earth Hour lights-out

At the conclusion of Israel’s Thursday night celebration of international Earth Hour, the city of Yavneh saw the biggest percent decrease in electricity usage, with a reduction of 7.5 percent, according to data from the Israel Electric Corporation. In second place was Modi’in, with a 7.4% decrease in consumption.
Overall, Israel’s power usage dropped 101 megawatts, with an equivalent of approximately 67,527 households participating in the event and 700,000 light bulbs extinguished, the Electric Corporation reported.
Out of the 20 cities that participated in the Earth Hour lights-out period, Tel Aviv ended up in the middle, with a 3.9% electricity reduction, while Jerusalem took last place, with only a 2.5% decrease.
