Backtracking on a previous defense establishment decision, Defense Minister Amir Peretz ordered Wednesday morning that Israeli hospitals provide the proper medical care for a Palestinian girl and her uncle, who were wounded in an IAF air strike on an Islamic Jihad terrorist in Gaza two weeks ago.
The girl is going to be admitted to Alyn Hospital in Jerusalem on Sunday for treatment, despite the hospital's full capacity.
The hospital was also looking for a way to bring the girl's uncle in for rehabilitation, so the two could recover together.
The defense establishment had refused thus far to finance the medical treatment of 3-year-old Maria Mahani, who was wounded in an IDF strike against Muhammad Dahduh of the Islamic Jihad two weeks ago, it was revealed early Wednesday.
According to a Defense Ministry statement, a special panel will gather in the near future in order to officially approve the funding for the girl's medical care. In the meantime, according to the statement, the ministry will ask hospitals in Israel to care for the girl and her uncle and not to send them back to Gaza.
Mahani's family's car passed by Dahduh's vehicle during the strike, and thus her brother, mother and grandmother were killed and the girl and her uncle sustained serious injuries and were taken to receive treatment at the Sheba Medical Center.
Doctors for Human Rights told Israel Radio that the Palestinian Authority paid for the medical treatment, but could not afford to fund the recovery as well.
