Sixteen members of a committee created by the UN Human Rights Council to report on Palestinian and Israeli follow-up after the Goldstone report arrived in Gaza late Saturday, AFP reported.The members are expected to spend three days in Hamas-controlled Gaza to evaluate judicial actions undertaken by Hamas and Israeli authorities after the conclusion of Operation Cast Lead and the subsequent Goldstone report.RELATED:Analysis: Goldstone comes back to bite the BritsIs the Turkel Commission the end of Goldstone?Goldstone follow-up panel slammedThe Goldstone report accused both Hamas forces and Israel of committing war crimes during the 22-day battle and the report panel recommended that the cases documented be transferred to the International Criminal Court in the Hague if Hamas and Israel investigations of war conduct were deemed insufficient.As reported in the Post last month, the IDF has resolved almost all the cases of soldierly misconduct specified in the Goldstone report.IDF Military Advocate-General Maj.- Gen. Avichai Mandelblit decided in July that a number of IDF soldiers will face criminal and disciplinary charges for misconduct during Operation Cast Lead, in the most comprehensive legal action taken by Israel in the wake of the Goldstone Report.In the most severe case, Mandelblit decided to charge a soldier with manslaughter for allegedly shooting and killing a Palestinian woman during the operation in the Gaza Strip.With the decision to take legal action, Mandelblit completed reviewing 30 cases singled out in the Goldstone report, except for one that is still under Military Police investigation.Mandelblit together with the Foreign Ministry also submitted a revised version of a report that Israel submitted on Operation Cast Lead to the United Nations in February.
