Veteran broadcaster best known for talk show programs appointed unanimously.

Veteran broadcaster Mickey Miro has been appointed head of Israel Radio by the Israel Broadcasting Authority Tenders Committee.The unanimous appointment was announced late Sunday afternoon.Miro is best known for his talk show programs in which he interviews people involved in social welfare, environmental and domestic tourism projects.He was selected from among three candidates. The others were his predecessor Arye Shaked and Elihu Ben-Onn, who is a multifaceted broadcaster, working as a sportscaster, news presenter and talk-show host of The Israeli Connection, a post-midnight program with interviewees from around the world who are Israeli expatriates or people who have lived or worked in Israel and still want to maintain a connection.The Tenders Committee emphasized that all three candidates were highly qualified, talented and motivated, but that Miro was the most impressive with his innovative approach to management.Along with his proven abilities, the committee listed Miro’s broad vision and his readiness to formulate a new cultural design for Israel Radio.The IBA Executive Board is committed to continue publishing tenders for executive positions in line with the recommendations made by the state comptroller. The decision on the future CEO of Channel 1 has been deferred as most of the applicants are currently abroad, and the Tenders Committee wants to interview each of them separately.IBA director-general Moti Sklaar is winding up his affairs and clearing his desk for his successor, who has yet to be named.
