Here’s what the IHRA definition says, why its supporters see it as a key for fighting Jew-hatred and why its critics are fighting it.

BDS is, by definition, discriminating against Israelis due to their national origin, and antisemitism is discrimination based on religion.

The European Commission began using the IHRA definition in 2017 and the European Parliament adopted it for use in the same year.

The condemnation is a "significant step forward to make Europe a better place for Jews,” said WJC president Ronald S. Lauder.

"Our adoption of the IHRA's working definition will enable us to be more effective in dealing with any antisemitic behavior targeting our clubs or personnel."

The Council of the European Union calls on member states to adopt a series of policies to combat the antisemitism in Europe.

"I am so exhausted with having to emotionally respond," a Jewish member said.

The announcement comes following efforts made by the British government to push for all higher learning institutions to adopt the IHRA's definition.

For anyone going beyond the labels and self-declared guardians of morality, the case for labeling these organizations as systematically antisemitic is clear.
