'Destroying homes in east J'lem harms direct talks'

State Department Spokesperson Phillip Crowley criticized the Jerusalem municipality's bulldozing of homes in east Jerusalem in a press briefing on Wednesday, saying these activities harmed the possibility of direct negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians.

"The kinds of actions that we saw yesterday in the demolition of houses, it is clear to us incite strong feelings," said Crowley. He added, "this is exactly the type of unilateral actions that undermine trust. This is the very kind of action that poses a potential obstacle to direct negotiations [between Israel and the Palestinian Authority]."
