Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Salam Fayyad stressed the importance of meeting his September deadline for Palestinian statehood to visiting US Defense Secretary Robert Gates on Friday, DPA reported.

In the meeting, Fayyad complained about what he called Israeli restrictions and obstructions to Palestinian state=building efforts as well as about settlement building and IDF operations in West Bank cities, according to the report. He said that the operations undermine Palestinian efforts to stabilize the areas and enhance security.
