Floods strand cars, knock out power in Australia

BRISBANE, Australia — Torrential downpours dumped up to 11 inches (28 centimeters) of rain on parts of eastern Australia on Monday, causing flash flooding, stranding cars and knocking out power to thousands.
Heavy rain has been falling across coastal areas of southeastern Queensland state since Sunday, with wind gusts of up to 60 miles (100 kilometers) per hour ripping branches from trees and downing power lines. No injuries or deaths were reported as a result of the storm.
