Horowitz: Bar Ilan University must respect secular students

Meretz MK Nitzan Horowitz responded to an incident on Tuesday in which a Bar Ilan University lecturer sent a student out of the class because he was not wearing a kippa (skullcap), commenting that the university must "respect its secular students."
In a statement released Tuesday, Horowitz stated it is "inconceivable that a public institution funded by the state would force students to observe religious practices."
He questioned: "What will be the next step? Obligatory religious observance?," adding that he expects Bar Ilan University to respect secular students and change the current policy that requires all students to wear kippot.
