Italian MPs sign petition against Palestinian UN state bid

Over 150 Italian MPs from across the political spectrum signed a document calling for international opposition to the Palestinian United Nations statehood recognition bid to be presented at the UN General Assembly this September, a government statement said Tuesday.
The petition, which was sponsored in Italy by the board of the Italy-Israel Parliamentary Friendship Association consisting of Italian MPs from various parties, called for a resumption of peace talks between the Palestinian Authority and Israel to reach a conclusion based on a mutual agreement.
The document explained that unilateralism undermines "all accepted international frameworks for peace such as UN Security Council resolutions 242, 338, and 1850."
