CAIRO - Libyan rebels took control of Misrata airport on Wednesday after heavy fighting with Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's forces, Al Jazeera television reported.

A correspondent for the Qatar-based satellite channel, speaking from Benghazi, quoted a rebel spokesman as saying that "the rebels have taken complete control of the airport about half an hour ago".
