US Secretary of State John Kerry on Wednesday said the US voted in accordance with its values last week at a UN Security Council vote on Israeli settlements.

"The vote at the United Nations was about preserving the future," he claimed.

Kerry underlined that allies do not always agree on policies, saying "Friends need to tell each other the hard truth."
