Netanyahu endorses Cohen for mayor of Beit Shemesh

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu endorsed Beit Shemesh mayoral candidate Eli Cohen on Thursday.
In a letter, Netanyahu wrote that Cohen, an executive at the Mekorot national water company and a former high-ranking official at the Jewish Agency, had exhibited “determination, talent and dedication” as a public servant.
Netanyahu “understands the importance of my election as mayor of Beit Shemesh for all of its residents,” Cohen told The Jerusalem Post. “I thank Prime Minister Netanyahu for his personal and public trust.”
A spokesman for Mayor Moshe Abutbol of Shas said acerbically that he was pleased to see that while the incumbent was implementing the coalition agreement that Netanyahu had signed with Shas by building thousands of apartments for haredi families, the prime minister decided to endorse a candidate who was not from the Likud.
