Obama speaks to Merkel about euro zone crisis

WASHINGTON - US President Barack Obama spoke to German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Tuesday about the euro zone debt crisis and agreed that an effective solution was critical for the world economy, the White House said.
"They agreed that dealing effectively with this crisis is important for sustaining the economic recovery in Europe as well as for the global economy," the White House said in a statement.
