Police in Rahat believe an 18-year-old Beduin woman was shot in the leg by her brother on Friday because of photographs of her that appeared on Facebook that he deemed "immodest."

The woman was rushed to the Soroka Medidcal Center in Beersheba in light condition.

Police said a subsequent investigation found that the shooting victim's 21-year-old brother was behind the attack. He was arrested by police in Rahat hours after the shooting.

"During his questioning, it became apparent that he had learned of photographs on Facebook, which he thought portrayed his sister in an 'immodest way,' and he therefore decided to harm her," police said.

The suspect viewed the photographs himself before deciding to "defend the family honor," police added. He was due to be charged this week by Rahat police.
