No visa requirement for Romanians

Some 20,000 Romanian tourists are expected to visit Israel during 2008 while 10,000 visited here in 2007.

The Knesset Interior Committee approved Tourism Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch's proposal on Sunday to cancel the requirement of tourist visas for Romanian tourists visiting Israel. A similar procedure was initiated in Romania several months ago, allowing Israelis to enter Romania without applying for a tourist visa in advance. The tourism minister praised the committee's decision and reported that after the mutual cancellation of the visa for Russian and Romanian tourists, he also plans to cancel tourist visas for Ukrainian vacationers to Israel. Some 20,000 Romanian tourists are expected to visit Israel during 2008 while 10,000 visited here in 2007, the ministry said.
