Charge sheet alleges deadly revenge for poker debt beating

A 28-year-old man from Netanya was charged Monday with murder stemming from a poker debt.

According to the indictment sheet, filed by central state prosecutors at the Petah Tikva Magistrate’s Court, the defendant, Meir Kraif, had accumulated a large debt owed to the victim, Yossi Turjeman. Turjeman assaulted Kraif over the debt on the night of November 11, punching him in the face. In response, Kraif “made a decision to bring about Turjeman’s death” the same evening.

According to prosecutors, Kraif armed himself with a nine millimeter handgun and began gathering information on his target’s movements hours before launching his attack.

Shortly after 1 a.m., the defendant, wearing a ski mask, allegedly arrived at Turjeman’s Netanya home on a motorbike and snuck in via the balcony, the charge sheet said. He allegedly fired repeatedly at Turjeman, striking and wounding another man in the process.

According to prosecutors, Turjeman pushed the wounded man out of the line of fire in order to save him. At least six rounds struck Turjeman, causing his death, police said.
