The system was deployed after rockets were launched from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory, and in the shadow of the growing tensions in Jerusalem.
Just before midnight Friday, Iron Dome anti-rocket battery intercepts Gazan rocket over southern city of Ashkelon.
Residents in the area reported hearing a fierce explosion shortly after the siren sounded. The rocket was reportedly intercepted in mid-flight by an Iron Dome battery.
