2,295 illegal African migrants enter Israel in January

The Interior Ministry registered a significant increase in the number of illegal African migrants entering Israel was in January, noting that 2,295 people crossed the Egyptian - Israeli border.
The migrants were made up of 1,805 men, 429 women and 61 children. The Interior Ministry said the number was much higher than the number of migrants who entered in January last year.
The Population and Immigration Authority, which is a part of the Interior Ministry, said the number of illegal migrants is "growing every month."
Some observers believe the growth is due to a realization among migrants that a border fence being constructed by Israel along the southern border will soon be complete.
