ADL: UNESCO Palestine vote 'dangerously inappropriate'

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL), called Wednesday's United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Executive Board vote recommending that Palestine be admitted as a full member of the UN agency “woefully premature and dangerously inappropriate.”
“The Palestinians have unduly politicized this body, and if this action is approved by the full membership, it risks undermining the truly important work of UNESCO,” ADL national director Abraham H. Foxman said in a statement Thursday morning.
Of the 58-member UNESCO Executive Board, only the United States, Germany, Latvia and Romania opposed the resolution, while 40 voted in favor and 14 abstained. Before taking effect, the recommendation must be approved by two-thirds of the UNESCO General Conference's 193 members when they meet in late October.
