Dust still thick in region’s air

The dust storm that covered the region on Tuesday brought high concentrations of respirable particles in the air, which dwindled somewhat overnight but still remained high on Wednesday, the Environmental Protection Ministry reported.
The ministry has therefore recommended that heart and lung patients, the elderly, children and pregnant women continue to avoid prolonged stays outdoors. In addition, the entire population should refrain from strenuous physical activities outdoors, the ministry said.
As of 10 a.m. Wednesday, the average particles per cubic meter for the past 24 hours were 890 in Jerusalem (5.93 times that of the normal amount for the city), 654 in Tel Aiv (4.36 times that of the normal amount), 878 in Modi’in (5.85 times that of the normal amount), 853 in Rehovot (5.69 times that of the normal amount), 614 in Beersheba (4.09 times that of the normal amount) and 500 in Beit Shemesh (3.33 times that of the normal amount), according to the Environmental  Ministry.
