The Knesset's Finance Committee on Wednesday approved a proposal submitted by Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz offering tax incentives for investors in Israeli films, as well as foreign films being produced in the country. Regarding the new plan, Steinitz said that Israeli cinema, which has won several international awards over the last few years, "contributes significantly to Hebrew cultural development and social life," and raises "Israel's standing and image in the world." Finance Ministry Director-General Yoram Ariav said that after consulting with leading film industry figures from around the world, he found that they approved of the new moves and saw them as central tools to the advancement of the Israeli film industry.
