Finance minister thanks Fischer for Israeli economy, image

Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz thanked Fischer for his contribution to Israel, saying he was asset not only for the Israeli economy, but for Israel's international image. "[His] contribution is reflected both in routine periods of economic calm and the stormy period of the global crisis and weakening economic world order," he said.

"I thank him especially for his important contribution in Israel's acceptance into the OECD and the public support in the critical period of the Sheshinski Committee's activity, against the intense pressure that we had to deal with in Israel and the world." The Sheshinski Committee crafted recommendations on how Israel should tax its oil and gas in early 2011.
