Finance Ministry, doctors' union meet to prevent strike

Representatives from the Finance Ministry and the Israel Medical Association met on Monday in an attempt to prevent the physicians' strike scheduled to start Tuesday.
Health Ministry representatives also participated in the meeting which took place in Jerusalem.
IMA chairman Dr. Leonid Eidelman on Sunday said the Finance Ministry has “dried up” the health system while the doctors didn’t strike for 11 years as part of an agreement for arbitration reached during the last round of substantial negotiations.
This time, the health system is “collapsing” due to Finance Ministry reduction of services and failure to expand them as needed by the growing and aging population, the IMA says.
