Haifa resident Victor Peled was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison on Wednesday for stealing almost NIS 2 million. Peled's partner in crime, Avner Pinto, was given a prison sentence of 2.5 years. Peled and Pinto conned both human resources companies and construction material suppliers, paying them for their services with invalid checks. Haifa District Court Judge Oded Gershon rejected Peled's plea bargain, which called for a five-year jail term, stating that such a sentence was too short in light of the multiple criminal offenses he committed. The offenders have yet to compensate their victims.
