Israel Beiteinu says indefinitely postponing NGO probe

Israel Beiteinu spokesman Tal Nahum said Tuesday that the party is indefinitely postponing legislation that would have created a parliamentary inquiry into the funding of NGOs.
The party initiated the bill, saying foreign funding for groups critical of government policy toward the Palestinians was dangerous and needed to be exposed. The legislation was widely criticized as political persecution.
Nahum added that the legislation was pulled after Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu decided not to order his Likud Party to support the bill. Some Likud members said they would oppose the measure.
