Labor union leader says government neglect caused high poverty stats

Chairman of the Histadrut Labor Federation Avi Nissenkoren said government neglect is responsible for the high poverty rate in Israel, as detailed in a National Insurance Institute (Bituah Leumi) report published Thursday.

"The results of the poverty report are harsh, but unsurprising. They are the result of the government neglecting the weaker part of society," Nissenkoren said. "The positive change, though small, is as a result of actions by the Histadrut - raising the minimum wage, for example. The Histadrut will continue its actions to change our future for the better."
