Metronit brings high volume of passengers

Since the Haifa Metronit bus rapid transit (BRT) system was fully launched on Friday, about three times as many passengers than usual have been riding on public transportation in the area,  municipality data said.
This is in part due to the fact that the Metronit system has been deemed free of charge until further notice, the city acknowledged. Although it is reasonable that some glitches will arise in the Metronit's operation in the next few days, workers are prepared to respond in real time, the municipality stressed.
Making use of 40 kilometers worth of exclusive BRT lanes, the Metronit fleet includes 84 efficient diesel and six hybrid buses.
"The great public response indicates the success of the project and the expected improvement in the quality of public transportation in Haifa and its surrounding towns," the city added.
