Minister: Concept of contract workers must be eliminated

Welfare and Social Services Minister Moshe Kahlon (Likud) said that the government must eliminate the practice of contracting during the opening of a deputy mayors’ forum in Eilat on Sunday.

"The concept of contract workers must be eliminated," Kahlon said.

“There can never be social justice when two people do the same amount of work, and one is paid NIS 12,000 while the other gets NIS 4,000; one gets gifts for the holidays and the other gets nothing; one is invited to office functions and the other is not,” the minister continued.

Kahlon assessed that the dispute between the Histadrut labor federation, the Finance Ministry and the Industry, Trade and Labor Ministry will be resolved soon.

The fact that the Histadrut canceled a planned general strike was was a sign of progress on the issue, he added.
