Ministers pass bill nixing police recommendations at investigations' end

The Ministerial Legislative Committee on Sunday passed an amended bill aiming to end the practice of police filing recommendations on whether to indict high-level suspects or not at the end of criminal investigations.

The highly charged law that has been criticized as a means of limiting the authority of the police, which is set to complete an investigation into corruptions allegations by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, will go to first reading in the Knesset plenum on Monday.

The bill, which has already undergone a preliminary reading, was amended to remove a clause ordering the attorney general to open a probe into anyone suspected of leaking details of the investigation to the press.
