Missing Russian UN pilot found in southern Darfur

UNITED NATIONS — The UN says a missing Russian helicopter pilot has been found in southern Darfur.
UN associate spokesman Farhan Haq said Thursday the pilot, who works for the UN - African Union peacekeeping force, was now back in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, where the force has a base.
The helicopter disappeared Monday while transporting three rebel commanders back from peace negotiations with the Sudanese government in Doha, Qatar. It was recovered Tuesday with all the passengers and crew except the pilot.
UN spokesman Martin Nesirky said Wednesday the pilot and commanders "were beaten at the scene" when the helicopter landed in a mostly Arab tribal area.
