Oil Council to get environment rep

National Infrastructures Minister Uzi Landau said on Wednesday he will push for a representative with an environmental background to be added to the Oil Council as part of changes to the Oil Law in the works. The new member would be one of five representatives of the public on the body, which gives out exploration licenses. The environmental representative would have to have either an academic background or five years experience in the field.
The Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel charged that Landau had taken the easy way out by pushing for someone with an environmental background rather than a representative of the environmental NGOs.
