Peres thanks Konrad, Merkel for German role in Schalit deal

President Shimon Peres on Tuesday met with with German mediator Gerhard Konrad as Gilad Schalit was being transferred to Israel and thanked him for his efforts over the years to secure Schalits release.
"You laid the foundations," Peres told the mediator. He thanked both Konrad and German Chancellor Angela Merkel for their mediation efforts and he thanked Merkel for her political support.
