Radiation level at Japan plant falls after smoke seen

TOKYO - The radiation level at Japan's crippled Fukushima nuclear plant was 435 microsieverts two hours before smoke rose from its No. 3 reactor but fell to 283.7 microsieverts after the smoke was seen, a Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency official said on Wednesday.
Both levels were unusually high compared with levels over the past few days. The plant was damaged by an earthquake and tsunami on March 11.
