Report: 16 dead, 25 injured in Bangladesh road accident

A truck collided head on with a bus Thursday in northwestern Bangladesh, killing at least 16 people and injuring 25, a report said. The bus fell into a ditch after the collision, and the dead included the driver and his assistant, the United News of Bangladesh news agency said. It gave no other details about the accident in Sirajganj district, 65 miles (105 kilometers) northwest of Dhaka. Officials could not immediately be reached for comment. Road accidents are common in Bangladesh, mainly because of poor roads and lax enforcement of traffic laws. About 4,000 people die in such accidents each year, according to the government's Road Transport Authority.
