Report: Israel transfers fuel to Gaza to alleviate crisis

Israel sent truckloads of diesel fuel into the Gaza Strip Wednesday morning, as per an agreement signed between Hamas officials in Gaza and the Palestinian Authority, Palestinian energy authorities in Gaza said.
Several truckloads of fuel entered the Gaza Strip through the Kerem Shalom crossing with Israel. Hamas agreed to the deal after weeks of squabbling over how to deal with fuel imports from its archenemy Israel, agreeing finally to pay the PA for the Israeli fuel.
The fuel was destined for Gaza's sole power plant, which was shut down a number in the last number of months due to severe fuel shortages resulting from an Egyptian crackdown on smuggling tunnels between the Sinai peninsula and Gaza.
The fuel crisis sparked political tensions between Hamas and the PA, which Hamas claimed was exacerbating the problem for political gains, at the same time the governments in Gaza and Ramallah were attempting to reconcile longstanding differences and form a unity government.
