Shapiro: US's commitment to Israel's security 'very strong'

The relationship between Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and US President Barack Obama "is everything it needs to be," US Ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro told Channel 2 Sunday night.
In this respect, Shapiro reiterated president Obama's "very strong commitment to Israel's security," and pointed to US military assistance to Israel as well as missile defense cooperation as evidence.
Addressing rumors of alleged tension between the two leaders, Shapiro said that the reality does not match the prevailing media narrative nor does it reflect the shared focus on a common threat and common strategy.
With respect to Iran in particular, Shapiro admitted that the US "has absolutely not achieved its goal of stopping Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons," and said that "sanctions have clearly not achieved the goal as of yet."
